Happy 7th Birthday, Colin!

If you've been reading here for any of amount of time, you know that we're quite obsessed with our two nephews. Today  just happens to be the day that seven years ago this morning, we welcomed our youngest nephew, Colin David into the world!

From the get-go, Colin was the ideal 2nd kid and little brother.

He prefers to do his own thing and march to the beat of his own drum. I'm not sure how many times I've used that phrase in the past seven years to describe this kid, and honestly, I hope that I can always say this about Colin.

Don't get me wrong, it's a monkey-see, monkey-do relationship among brothers, but these two are SO different.

Riley likes attention and hooplah, Colin would prefer to play something by himself off in a quiet bedroom.

Riley is a snuggler, and Colin will pretty much only snuggle with his mom or with Stephen. Trust me. I've tried. AND TRIED. The kid just won't cuddle with me.

He is the funniest little boy we have ever known. I know alot of people say this about their own kids or kids in their families, but I'm telling you. Colin...he's hilarious. He's the kind of funny in everyday moments that crack you up and he's not intentionally trying to be funny. He's just quick and witty.

He has inherited a long standing family trait of having a sweet tooth. The boy can eat you under the table in sweets and will sneak whatever candy is laying around when you're not looking.

For as much as his big brother L.O.V.E.S. sports, Colin, at the end of the day, could really care less. He plays baseball and basketball, and has since he was young enough to do so. They ask him every year if he wants to play and every year he says yes, but his interest in sports and playing sports is waaaaaaay down on his priority list. His team could lose every game of the season, and it would not affect him one little bit. His brother...different story.

He has the best smile and the kindest heart. Often times during church he'll color small coloring pages and pick specific elderly people to give them to after services or he'll make sure he gets them to someone who can take them to someone on the sick list that day. I hope his care for others stays with him forever.

Colin and Stephen are best buds. Colin was just 2 when Stephen came into the picture, so he's all he's ever known. It's been so sweet to watch their special bond grow through the years. They love each other so much!

He makes friends wherever he goes. He can roll with his big brother's friends just as easily as he can with friends his own age. If Riley is invited to a friend's party, it goes without saying that Colin is always invited too. Everyone just loves having him around!

He can quote movies, tv shows, commercials...you name it. He can speak fluent minion.

Remember that time I talked about cuddling only with his mom and Stephen....

He's still young enough to think pictures are cool and he never turns down a selfie.

He gives hugs and says I love you to everyone before he leaves.

He has my dad, his granddad, wrapped around his finger. Let's face it, we're all wrapped around his skinny fingers.

He and his brother are always concocting a plan for a sleepover at someone's house, including ours. They love being overnight guests, and have a strange fascination with staying in hotels.

He's smart, thoughtful, witty, observant and when he gets hyper...well as he said himself once, "Riley's the normal one, I'm the crazy one!"

I hope he always wants to spend the night at our house. I hope he always says I love you first. I hope he always thinks that you plant pinecones to get pine trees. I hope memory foam shoes are always his favorites. I hope he's still speaking in minion when he's 21. I hope he always has the same infectious giggle he has now. I hope he always sneaks one more jelly bean in his pocket before he leaves our house. I hope he always has a heart for service to others like he so tenderly has now.

Happy 7th Birthday, Colin!! We love you buddy!

What's Up Wednesday: April Edition

It’s the last Wednesday of the month, which means we’re all linking up with Shay, Sheaffer and Mel for What’s Up Wednesday! Let’s get to it friends…

What we’re eating this week…
This week is fairly low key until Saturday. On the menu for this week is Andrea’s Crockpot Meatball Stroganoff, my own variation of Chicken Pot Pie (everyone has their own recipe, mine is my favorite!) and Shay’s Caprese Turkey Burgers…SO GOOD! We make these fairly often!

What I’m reminiscing about…
Our youngest nephew turns SEVEN tomorrow! Wasn’t he just this little…

Oh my heart.

What I’m Loving…
The beautiful Spring weather we’ve had the last several days! It’s just been beautiful in middle TN!

What we’ve been up to…
Unfortunately, I’m getting over a horrible virus from last week and that’s the only thing we’ve been up for a  while. YUCK.

What I’m Dreading…
Whatever the insurance won’t cover from the hospital visit from said virus above. This is why you save people! Those “unexpected expenses”…they’ll pop up whenever they want to!

What I’m Working On…
We’ve got a few organizational projects we’re planning to tackle in the coming weeks. Our goal is to be done by June! I think we can, I think we can!!

Earlier last week I worked on a couple of canvases for an upcoming twins baby shower gift…

…and a couple of chalkboards for a friend to use for some events she had coming up.

What I’m Excited About…
Colin’s birthday bash is on Saturday and I always love celebrating birthdays with our nephews and all their little friends!

What I’m Watching / Reading…
Stephen is a huge Game of Thrones fan, so needless to say we were parked in front of our TV at 8pm on Sunday night for the new season premiere. I SAY I don’t like it, but I find myself talking about the show off and on to people at work all week.

Last week was new magazine week in the mail!! YAY for happy mail!! I love catching up with some of faves on a lazy afternoon!

What I’m Listening To…
I’ve said before, my taste in music is wide-reaching. The past two weeks, I’ve been jealous of family who have been at Disney World and friends who have been at Disney Land! What’s a Disney loving girl to do who’s stuck in her office at work…listen to the Sorcerer’s Radio app! Never heard of it?! They play music from across all the Disney Parks. So while I might be sitting at my desk working on a bi-monthly Safety Report, I FEEL LIKE I’m walking through Frontier Land on my way to Splash Mountain enjoying all the Disney sites, smells and sounds! I LOVE this app!

What I’m Wearing…
Spring layers! Yes!! I picked up this floral kimono at the NashvilleFlea Market a couple months ago, and I can’t get enough. I’m resisting all urges to buy more!

What Are We Doing This Weekend…
We have a Spring photo shoot planned on Saturday morning with the same guy who snapped our pics back in the Fall. We have a few fun things planned with that!

We also have Colin’s birthday party Saturday and our church’s annual Talent Show Saturday night which is always a hoot! Busy, busy Saturday!!

What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month…
Graduation Parties, Baby Showers, May Birthdays, a few fun things coming to the blog, and our next Pinspiration Wednesday linkup!

Join us on Wednesday, May 4 and link up sharing your favorite tips, tricks and pins for getting yourself into your best Summer shape! We’re talking healthy recipes, favorite work outs, easy and light snacks, you get the idea! Whatever you do that makes you feel your best self for the Summer months! Grab our graphic and join us next Wednesday!!

What else is new…
Baseball season is in full swing! We can’t wait to catch some of our nephews’ games and cheer on our favorite pitcher!

Be sure to check in with Shay to see everyone else’s What’s Up Wednesday post!! See you back here tomorrow for a special birthday post!

Daniel Caught the Big ONE!

*Some of these photos turned out a little blurry and I'm not sure why because it was the most beautiful day outside. Oh well, you get the idea.*

So...party planning....it's kind of my thing.

One of my best friends, Amy, party planning is not her thing. Not long after she and her husband had their son Daniel last April, I knew immediately what his first birthday party theme needed to be and I also knew Amy would let me take full control just so she wouldn't have to. Fast forward 10 months and here we are celebrating sweet Daniel's 1st Birthday!

I came up with the phrase "Daniel Caught the Big ONE" (since his daddy is an avid fisherman) and started searching Pinterest for ideas, color schemes, etc. I pinned several ideas, but only ended up using the green streamers to look like seaweed pin. Everything else, just kind of came together which you'll see....

I added a large fishing net, a few fish cut-outs, some red and white bobbers, the streamers and a hand painted banner I made for our backdrop.

I had several Fiesta serving dishes and bowls that fit the color scheme perfectly!

We used a tackle box (a new, clean tack box) to hold plates, napkins and forks.

We attached another fishing net to the other side of the porch where we used clothespins to attach photos Amy had made of Daniel throughout his first year. Oh yeah, Amy dabbles in photography on the side and does a wonderful job! I'm sure we'll make several party planning / photography trades in the years to come!

For his high chair, I added a smaller hand painted banner with a cute fisherman cutout that I asked my cousin Elizabeth to make for me. She has one of those fancy schmancy cricket machines or whatever they're called. Anyways...she's a whiz on it and makes the cutest crafts, so I enlisted her help for the little guy and all the fish!

It was the most beautiful Spring day to have the entire party outdoors! Amy and Andy have an older home that they've put so much work into on the inside and outside. Amy has a green thumb and always has the prettiest flower beds and baskets growing all around their house!

Just as guests started to arrive, we set out the food. We kept things super simple and to go along with our "fishing" theme. Amy made up sack lunches for everyone to grab and enjoy.

She labeled each bag for what kind of sandwich was inside and included a bag of goldfish crackers and fruit gummies. We also had veggie bars and a small section set up to make your own sandwich if you wanted seconds or just wanted to make your own.

This menu was SO easy and affordable and the perfect little lunch for a Saturday!

Amy had a co-worker of hers make the cake. The small fish detached to be Daniel's smash cake.

I wish I had been in a better position to get these photos because he was just so darn cute going after his cake. Little man OWNED the cake smash!! If you follow me on IG, you saw a little video a couple weekends ago on the party day!

Hey, you only turn 1 once, right!?! Live it up little man!

After a quick clean up, presents, and goodbyes, we started cleaning up and I took the job of rocking Daniel to sleep for his afternoon nap. The best job I had of the day!

I love this boy just as if he were my biological nephew. There's just something so special with the bonds you make with your best friends' kids. You know you'll watch them grow up for the rest of their lives and you know you'll be around for all the milestones that they and your friends experience together.

Happy Birthday Daniel!! Time to start planning for party #2!
