A Mother's Gut Feeling

For those of you who are moms, do you agree that "mother's intuition" is a real thing? Because I am now a firm believer.

I won't go into full detail, but this week threw our little family a curve ball. Amelia suddenly started getting sick on Tuesday. Between Tuesday at 12:30 pm and Thursday at 11am, she has been to the doctor's office 4 times, spent the night in the ER, had a small procedure on Wednesday, and BLESS HER TINY HEART...she's been through ALOT of pain this week.

Long story short, she has/had a staph infection. She's not totally out of the woods yet, but she's certainly on the mend and acting more like herself finally.

She had so much fluid build up when they drained it that the doctor said he has never seen that much on a child her age. Normally, the amount they drained off of her is seen on a TEENAGER!

She has been a very sick little girl this week, and at a couple different times we were prepared to hear that she would be admitted to the hospital. Had we let it go just a few more hours even, she would've been admitted for sure.

All of this to say, Stephen's mom is the one who said I think this needs to be looked at. She just knew it wasn't right. And then the next day, it was my gut feeling that said something is REALLY wrong with her so we pressed for more aggressive treatment than she received the day before.

We've had an abundant amount of help from friends and family this week. And for the first time in ten months someone came to my house and said, "go take a nap..I've got her." Part of me felt guilty and part of me about burst into tears that someone knew exactly what kind of help I needed at the exact moment I needed it.

She's getting better...literally each hour since about 2pm yesterday you can watch her improvement and gain a bit more strength. She's not totally over it yet though, and we're certainly being cautious with the infection, the drainage that remains and her med schedule. If you will, please keep her in your prayers this weekend. Pray for continued improvement and peaceful rest.

Oh Amelia....you gave us such a scare this week, but you showed us how tough you are! You're a gem little one!!
